‘What the Constitution Means to Me’: Thought-Provoking Play Debates the U.S. Constitution

"The Constitution is a living document. That is what is so beautiful about it. It is a living, warm-blooded, steamy document." So begins the teenage Heidi Schreck's speech at the Wanatchee, Washington, American Legion Hall on what the Constitution means to her, as reenacted by the adult Heidi Schreck, the writer and lead actor of the play What the Constitution Means to Me. Schreck paid her way through college with money she earned debating in Legion halls around the country. But through her play, the grown-up Schreck's keeps butting into her idealistic speech with information that her all-male judges at the time would not have appreciated. For example, Schreck complicates her celebration of the 1965 case of Griswold v. Connecticut, which struck down state contraception bans by establishing a newfound "right to privacy," by calling into question to motivations of Justice William O. Douglas, who wrote the lead opinion, and other justices on a court that would not have its first woman on the bench for another 16 years. "I actually found out while researching this that William O. Douglas, who was 67 years old, was actually having an affair with a 22-year-old college student, and it turns out that three other judges were having sex with young women as well," Schreck tells the audience during her 90-minute play. "So I'm guessing they really wanted to find a way to get the birth control flowing." The laughs that line and many others receive throughout the performance balance the tears that come from Schreck's recounting the constitution's broken promise of equal protection of the laws for the women in her family who endured domestic violence and rape going back four generations. "I learned a great deal more when I started looking into the constitution as it relates to domestic violence laws, to abortion, to reproduction, to women's rights in the workplace," Schreck told Fox 5 News. "In trying to connect that to my family, I learned a lot about the women in my family. And some of it was heartbreaking." Schreck presents from that heartbreak a sense of lost faith in the document she extolled as a high school debater, leading to a new debate to close the show: whether to keep or abolish the Constitution. Schreck argues for abolition so to start anew with a charter created by more representative drafters securing, among other things, the rights to education and healthcare. Opposing her proposition are New York City high school girls Thursday Williams, 17, and Rosdely Ciprian, 14, who alternate shows with their arguments to keep the Constitution. Their key point: better to perfect the current Constitution's protections than risk deeper injustice in a failed attempt to reconstruct something new. --MIKE SACKS (Originally aired 10/18/2018) http://www.fox5ny.com/news/us-constitution-play

Can Social Media Influencers Make Real Money? [STREET SOLDIERS]

People will do anything chasing popularity and social media likes, even crossing the line with dangerous or destructive behavior. Now Instagram will test hiding the likes to ease the pressure and mental stress of low numbers. Marketing strategist Sean Prez called this a responsible move. "They're paying attention to the fact that many people are chasing these likes," he said. "People are posting and they're not really having discretion or discernment with what they put up so long as they get the feedback and the likes." Fashion and beauty influencer King Steph turned her high numbers of followers and likes into a business that became so lucrative she put her Columbia master's degree on the shelf and quit a full-time office job. She is paid by fashion and beauty brands to model and post her pictures. She views it as a launch pad. "I don't just want to stay here doing this one thing, I think it's really important to grow and use this platform to launch yourself upwards," she said. Flossy Carter has more than 1 million subscribers on his tech-oriented YouTube page, and has the plaque to prove it. The former paramedic who worked at ground zero on 9/11 started making videos as a hobby and found about six years later it became more than a labor of love. "At a certain point, I started to notice that I was making the same amount of money on YouTube as I was making at work, and I was doing both of them at the same time," he said. "I noticed I wasn't spending that much time with my daughter, that I didn't have a lot of free time, so I had to make a choice and quit one or the other." YouTube won out. Flossy said his following appreciates the fact that he gives his honest opinion. And the income streams just keep flowing. "You make money from ads on your videos, the watch time of the video, the longer the video is the more opportunity you have to put ads in that video," he said. "You also make money from affiliates, so say if I make a video for XYZ company I'm going to make that money from YouTube for the ads, and also if you buy that product from that XYZ company, they'll give me a little commission." --LISA EVERS, Host and Executive Producer, Street Soldiers https://twitter.com/lisaevers https://www.facebook.com/LisaEvers https://www.instagram.com/lisaevers/ https://www.instagram.com/_streetsoldiers/ https://www.facebook.com/FOX5NY/ https://twitter.com/fox5ny https://www.instagram.com/fox5ny/ #socialmedia #affiliatemarketing #youtubebusiness

Robbery Suspect Gets Shot by Cop After Reaching For His Gun

** (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) ** On March 16, 2019 at approximately 9:37 p.m., LVMPD Dispatch received a call of an armed robbery to a business located at 8010 S. Eastern Avenue. A male, later identified as 20-year-old Steven Aguirre, entered a business and robbed the employees at gunpoint. He then fled on foot carrying a cash register drawer. At approximately 10:17 p.m., officers located Aguirre at the corner of Fountain Heights Lane and Robindale Road. Officers issued verbal commands to Aguirre at gunpoint. The officers saw a firearm in a holster on his right hip and told Aguirre not to touch it. Officers commanded Aguirre to turn away from them and get down on his knees and he complied. As Aguirre was on the ground, he attempted to stand up and began pulling his firearm out of the holster. Officer Darko Milanovic fired one round, striking Aguirre. Officers approached and immediately rendered medical aid. Medical personnel were summoned, and Aguirre was transported to the hospital where he is in stable condition. Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to determine that at approximately 9:58 p.m., Aguirre broke into a business at 2980 Robindale Road while in possession of a firearm. This is the 5th officer involved shooting of 2019. The LVMPD Force Investigation Team is conducting the investigation into the officers use of force in this incident. The findings will be forwarded to the Clark County District Attorney's Office for review. An examination of this incident is being conducted by the LVMPD's Critical Incident Review Team. This review will focus on policy, tactics and training as it relates to this use of force. Dashcam Video Of Officer-Involved Shooting In Oroville, California

** (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) ** On November 15, 2018 while local law enforcement and their mutual aid partners were patrolling the evacuated areas of the Camp Fire, a citizen contacted a deputy with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office and expressed concern about a suspicious person who had been parked several days in the parking lot of the evacuated Pines Yankee Hill Hardware Store. The deputy suspected it contained a locally well-known double-homicide suspect and parole absconder by the name of GD Hendrix, 48, of Berry Creek. Local authorities had been searching for Hendrix for months to bring him back into custody. The deputy gathered other law enforcement officers who had been patrolling in the Concow area and attempted to take Hendrix into custody. Hendrix however drove off in his car south on Highway 70 after crashing through other parked vehicles. A high-speed pursuit ensued with many other deputies, wardens and officers joining in. The pursuit came to an end approximately eight miles later after Hendrix’s car’s tires had been successfully spiked by intervening officers. Hendrix got out of his car and feigned a firearm in his right hand and was shot at by five officers. He died at the scene from gunshot wounds. Also as a result of that gunfire, Sutter County Sheriff’s Office K9 “Bandit” also died at the scene while performing his duties in attempting to bring Hendrix into custody. A pit bull dog who came out of Hendrix’s car and attacked the wounded and dying K9 Bandit was also shot and killed by officers on scene. Dashcam Video of West Virginia State Troopers Beating Teen

** (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) ** The Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has released the dashcam video showing West Virginia State Police troopers kicking and punching a handcuffed teenage boy on the ground and kneeling on his shoulder during a November arrest in Berkeley County last year. Authorities had withheld the video pending the outcome of the investigation. This week, one of two troopers fired in January was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury. The video is from the dashcam of a Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department cruiser. There is no audio. The video shows two officers yanking the teen through the open driver's side window to the ground, where he lands face first and is immediately placed in handcuffs. Footage shows one of the officers then kicks and stomps him several times and puts his knee on the teen's shoulder blade, pressing down with his full weight. The officer then punches the teen at least eight times. A minute later, the teen is pulled up to his feet but remains limp as he is thrown further to the side of the road. Gov. Jim Justice has said the incident "cast a dark shadow" on law enforcement. Authorities originally denied media requests for the video, citing the investigation. Troopers Michael Kennedy and Derek Walker and a sheriff's deputy were fired in January. Another deputy who was fired recently got his job back. Kennedy, 29, of Morgantown, was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury on one count of deprivation of rights under color of law — language used to describe crimes committed by police officers while on duty. The indictment accuses Kennedy of using excessive force resulting in bodily injury. The teen was treated at a hospital and released. State police have said the teen was involved in a crash with a sheriff's cruiser before a pursuit ensued, his vehicle crashing again before he was apprehended. Delligatti said she couldn't release details on whether the youth was charged, saying juvenile prosecutions are sealed. The American Civil Liberties Union's West Virginia chapter has said it would look into whether the teenager's civil liberties were violated. "The brutality witnessed in this video is shocking but all too familiar," said Loree Stark, the West Virginia chapter's legal director, in a statement. "Law enforcement has a constitutional responsibility to avoid excessive force, and it is crucial for videos like this to come to light so that offending parties will be held accountable." Walker also faces an excessive force lawsuit filed last year by a Charles Town attorney who says the trooper dragged his wife and slammed her to the ground in 2016 while she was talking to construction workers about a sidewalk project. State police responded to the scene when a worker allegedly backed his truck into the driver's door of her SUV in a parking lot. Tay-K’s Friend, Pimpyz, Gets 30 Years For Deadly Robbery Case

Story: http://kollegekidd.com/news/tay-k-friend-pimpyz-gets-30-years-for-deadly-robbery-case/ Tay-K’s friend, Pimpyz, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. Pimpyz, whose real name is Jalen Bell, was handed the lengthy sentence for his role in the deadly home invasion that left 26-year-old Ethan Walker dead. Tay-K paid homage to Pimpyz in song “The Race” with the line, “Pimp gon be eating good noodles everyday.” Like Tay-K, Pimpyz, 17, was facing a capital murder charge when he was arrested on Friday, May 26, 2017. Pimp, whose real name is Jalen Bell, was being held on $500,000 bond at Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth, TX. Pimpyz revealed earlier this month he was offered a 20-year plea deal if he was to testify against Tay-K. He wrote on IG, “da judge said he’ll give me 20 if I snitch n I told him eat my d**k. I’ll neva switch.” In a plea deal reached with prosecutors, Pimp pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery in the home invasion. Pimp was one of seven suspects charged in the incident. Tay-K’s accomplice, Sean Robinson, has pleaded guilty for his role in deadly home invasion that left 26-year-old Ethan Walker dead. Sean, whose was originally charged with capital murder in the case, pleaded guilty to murder in exchange for a 40-year prison sentence. He’ll have to serve 18 years before he’s eligible for parole. Two female suspects – 22-year-old Ariana Bharrat and Megan Holt, 21 – both accepted plea deals, agreeing to testify truthfully in the upcoming capital murder trials of their co-defendants, Sean Robinson, Jalen Bell and Tay-K in exchange for being allowed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of aggravated robbery. Their testimonies will allow them to avoid capital murder charges and escape the death penalty. ~For On-Camera Interviews, Email Bookings@KollegeKidd.com ~For Inquiries, Email General@KollegeKidd.com ~Follow https://twitter.com/KollegeKidd For Up-To-Date News ~Get More News On http://www.facebook.com/kollegekidd ~Visit http://www.kollegekidd.com For News Everything Kulture.
